HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Korea 3rd post will start soon! I'm sorry for the late update, I was hoping to update it before the new year but I felt sick at 31st of Dec. After this post I will be writing for my experience in BUSAN, Korea which I had done my summer program over there for 3 weeks, so this post is not the end of my korea post! If you have interest reading up my korea post, do drop by more often so you could read the latest post!

Backpacker Inside!

Before the journey began, let me introduce my homestay for you. It's BACKPACKER INSIDE! I was staying over there for three nights, the price for each night is 16,000 WON (Around RM50) My dorm has 4 single beds in it, so there are another 3 roommates staying with me. This price is consider as the standard price for a dormitory in korea but you could find something cheaper or more expensive of course in somewhere else. I was happy and satisfied to stay at this homestay, just that it was abit too tiring when you come from airport to this homestay if you take monorail. There are information and guide of direction on BACKPACKER INSIDE official website, it shows you two ways you could take to reach the homestay from airport which are the monorail or the bus. I saw that it was cheaper to take monorail than bus and also because of language diversity problem, I decided to take monorail which was a safer way and cheaper way but it was a disaster for people who has a lot of heavy luggage like me.  This is because there are some certain station you need to walk to another station to change the monorail and the walking distance is not short, MOST IMPORTANT IS ! There is certain area which you need to climb the stairs with your luggage!

So If you wish to stay in this homestay, I would suggest you to take the bus (should be better) or else just take the taxi if you have enough budget.

Backpacker Inside

Include Breakfast

Due to it was taken on the last day, so it was abit messy

Oh ya, there is provided with free breakfast, but you have to make it yourself :)

Okay, Let the journey began! GOGOGO ! Today we will be going to conquer the Bukchon 8 Views! Why is this named as Bukcon 8 views? Bukchon is the name of that place and there are 8 special view for tourist, that's why it is Bukchon 8 views! I found it is interesting on other blog, that's why I decided to go and explore!

Introduction
"Bukchon 8 Views" is where people can fully enjoy the beauty of hanoks and the alleys in the area. Seoul has nominated eight different views and has set up "Photo Spots," from which you can easily find delight in the surroundings inside of Bukchon in order to develop the area as a Seoul’s most representative cultural tourist attraction.

Bukchon is a place where walking is strongly recommended. The alleys coil around like a maze, preserving traces of days long past. So why not have a look at Bukchon? You will certainly have a pleasant time while walking down the alleys of the Bukchon 8 Views.

I found this while on my way to bukchon, so I took a visit to there

Basically this Hanok Homestay Information Center is for tourist to visit and take some information. I think it is possible to stay in the Hanok Homestay too, but I'm not sure will they charge you on that or not.

P/S: There is FREE POST CARD for each tourist to visit there, REMEMBER TO TAKE IT!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's not very far to reach the first view of the Bukchon 8 view from the hanok center, Every view of the 8 view, there is photo spot on the road, so you should stand on it and take picture at there. This sound like RUNNINGMAN GAMES right? That's why I find this is very interesting and fun! xD

P/S: Before you want to visit here, you should get a map so that you could find all the 8 views easily ( I follow the instruction by another blogger which is more troublesome and easily get lost) In order to download the map please click into this link

The photo below is the photo I took while I stand on the photo spot of the first view, here is the bukchon first view

Introduction Bukchon 1st View: Changdeokgung Plalce View
This is where the best view of Changdeokgung Palacecan be seen beyond the stone walls, Changdeokgung Palace is where most of the Joseon Dynasty lived. From the Bukchon Cultural Center, go straight to the hill called Bukchon-gil: there you see the first photo spot. The view of Changdeokgung(Palace) from the photo spot is considered the most beautiful view of Bukchon. Also from there you can see Kyujanggak (the royal library of the Joseon Dynasty) and Old Seonwonjeon (royal portait hall).

At first I was thinking which country are all these rich kids from, can travel to korea at this young age = = but then my friend THENGTHENG who was following me told me that they are korean kids and it is normal that they will have vacation and visitation to  history place guiding by their school teacher ( WHY MALAYSIA TAK ADA MACAM INI!?? )

"Ha, du, sei!"

Thus, Basically We did not need to follow the blogger instruction at that time as there are group of students who did visitation at here too. So we just need to follow their track.

Bukchon 8 Views actually has a lot of places surround it which could be visited too, feel free to take a tour inside when you found something interesting! :)

Continuing walking from first view and you can find second view easily

Introduction of Bukchon 2nd View: Wonseo-dong Arts & Crafts Alleyway
The second photo spot is at the end of the Changdeokgung Palace's stone wall alley. The view includes the patio of the institute of Korean Royal Cuisine and the wall decorated with giwa (traditional Korean tile) patterns. Here you can get a glimpse into the lives of the people who dedicated their lives to take care of the royal family.

From the way from 2nd view to 3rd view, I found a very beautiful highschool. Their buildings are just so stunning amazing!

Next will be the 3rd view!

Introduction of Bukchon 3rd View: Gahoe-dong Museum Lane
The area of 11 Gahoe-dong is the third photo spot of Bukchon. Here you will see the museums and workshops of traditional craftwork. The essence of Bukchon culture is still alive in the hanok (traditional Korean house) residences in the area of 11 Gahoe-dong.

After the 3rd view, we couldn't really find the 4th view and we kept on walking to the wrong direction. Luckily we found these very friendly tourist information volunteer who gave us a map to follow.

With the help of the map and the tourist information volunteer, we found the 4th! :D

Introduction of Bukchon 4th View: Gahoe-dong Alley (Old & New)
Cross the Gahoe-ro and turn into the alley next to the Donmi pharmacy. This is the area of 31 Gahoe-dong, where a dense collection of hanoks can be seen. The view from the left terrace affords you a wonderful view of the entire 31 Gahoe-dong area, which is the most beautiful place in Bukchon. The sea of blue and green tiled hanoks is truly a sight to behold.

Please take note that the photo spot of the following 5th and 6th view already covered up, so you will not find them on the road ( Actually 5th view is just down the street and 6th view is at the uphill of the street. )

Introduction of Bukchon 5th View: Gahoe-dong Alley (Harmony)The fifth photo is hidden in one of the alleys in the area 31 Gahoe-dong. After passing by a large tree trunk on the upper side of the street, you will find an array of antique hanoks (traditional Korean houses) welcoming visitors. This zone has perfectly preserved its originality thanks to the Bukchon hanok conservation project.

Bukchon 6th View: Gahoe-dong Alley
Go straight up along the row of hanok roofs resembling Mount Bugaksan. The sixth photo is right there. The finest view of Seoul with hanoks can be seen from here.

Bukchon 7th view will be just next to 6th view

Introduction of Bukchon 7th View: 31 Gahoe-dong
Bukchon 5th and 6th views are known as the most popular alleys among the eight scenes; however, Bukchon 7th view is, if not as popular, at least as charming in its simply and mood of quiet happiness.

The last view which is the 8th view need a certain walking distance from 7th view, and you need to climb down the staircase ( Luckily is not climbing up ) The location is stay away from the crowd, no much tourist will come over here.

Introduction of Bukchon 8th View: Samcheong-dong Stair-rock
Follow the Bokjeong-gil past hanoks, palaces, mountains and the Chongwhadae (the office of the president) to a stairway connectiong to the Samcheongdong-gil. At the end of the stairway, you find the 8th photo spot. The stairs are made of stone and give us a feeling of the quaint and rustic.

HOHOHO!  FINALLY WE CONQUERED THE BUKCHON 8 VIEWS! I felt so satisfied and happy when I completed it! Although it was a bit tiring but it was a great experience! ( If you are not following tour trip, please do come by here and have fun! )

Due to there are not much people at 8th view, so must take some photos here for memories!
(THANKS THENGTHENG who accompanied me for this journey!)

Actually nearby Bukchon village there are many tourist spot like Gyeongbokgung.

When we reached there, there was a Changing Guard Ceremony going on. This ceremony is going on with schedule (consider as some kind of performance) Looking at ceremony under the hot weather made me feel so impressed and respect on their working attitude.

Due to it was already afternoon when we reached there and hunger, we didn't go inside to visit ( I did come back after my Busan Summer Program, so I will introduce this tourist spot on further post)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order to get our lunch, we went to another tourist spot area which is Insa-dong ( By walking )

Insa-dong (인사동), located in the heart of the city, is an important place where old but precious and traditional goods are on display. There is one main road in Insa-dong with alleys on each side. Within these alleys are galleries, traditional restaurants, traditional teahouses, and cafes.

The galleries are the heartbeat of Insa-dong. There are about 100 galleries in the area and you can see every example of traditional Korean fine art from paintings to sculptures. The most famous galleries are Hakgojae Gallery, which functions as the center of folk art, Gana Art Gallery, which promotes many promising artists, and Gana Art Center.

The teahouses and restaurants are the perfect complement to the galleries. At first they might be hard to find, but if you take the time to stroll around the twisting alleyways, the window shopping in itself can be very entertaining. The shops in Insa-dong are very popular among all age groups, because each one is unique.

Every Saturday from 14:00 – 22:00 and Sunday from 10:00 – 22:00, some streets are blocked off from traffic and it becomes a cultural space. Stores set up booths outside and others set up shops (Korean candy merchants and fortune tellers.) There are traditional performances and exhibits as well. Insa-dong is especially popular with foreign tourists. This is where they can experience and see traditional Korean culture firsthand, and also purchase pieces of fine art. On the street you can eat Korean taffy and traditional pajeon (Korean pancake), and see many foreigners lost in all the joyous festivities of the street.

Please try the Lemonade in Korea, it could be found easily at anywhere
( Although if convert to RM, is it abit too expensive for such a small cup == )

Lemonade 2,000 WON ( RM6)

We walked until so tired and frustrated to find a restaurant I saw in a blogger post, but at the end we found out the shop was not available anymore = = ( So this teach us that online information sometimes might be outdated )

Luckily at the end we still found a restaurant which is selling one of the favourite korea food I like - Bimbimbap

This Restaurant is located at ground floor of a SHOPPING MALL alike building

Bimbimbap 11,000 WON (RM33), It did not disappoint me a all. Just that most of the ingredient inside are vegetables, it would be better if could add on some meat inside!

Kimchi

Side Dishes here are very special too! Like the Kimchi which is not spicy

I'm not sure what tea this is, but it taste very good!

You can add on spices sauces if you need

Bimbimbap   11,000 WON (RM33)

Worth to Eat : 4/5

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After we rested in the restaurant, we went out and walked around in Insa-dong. Once we get out from the restaurant, there is a special area in front of it which is a DIY AREA. You can DIY to turn a normal stuff to your own creatively design product! COOL right? So what can you DIY here? Let's see!

Yes, you can DIY design you own cups or bowls. Afraid of bad drawing skills? Don't worry there some printed design paper which could help you on this!

Don't like cup and bowls? Don't WORRY, there is another DIY Workship which is more environmental-friendly! It is DIY glass bottle into CLOCK! ( I like this idea so much, it is so creative and environmental friendly! )

The boss has a special machine which could reshape the bottle, after that you just need to add on some small machines and it could turn into a CLOCK! Special right?! Or else you can make it into decoration accessories!

You want something more eco-friendly? Then this 1 will not disappoint you! Hand-craft Wood! This workshop has a lot of different wood in different shape, you can write some words on it and make it into accessories or a gift!

Personally think that all these DIY workshops are so special and creative! ( Actually there are more workshops ) Some of them even change a trash into a beautiful art product and this could be a gift to your friend or family which is so meaningful as you hand-crafted it! In addition, these workshop is suitable for family to have fun on the progress. Nice idea right? Anyone want to collaborate with me to do this in MALAYSIA? XD

Insa-dong is full with tourist and also Art products, you could see Art Performances at the street and also some nice drawing on the walls.

Except the Lemonade, if you come to Insa-Dong, the another thing you 99% will buy is THIS!

Do you know what is this? This is not wooden stick for old people or an umbrella! IT IS ICE CREAM STICKS! SPECIAL right? You need to pick one of it and pay the money, then take it to the ice cream man to put the ice cream in it ( Vanilla Flavour )

Corn flavor Ice Cream Stick with Vanilla Flavour Ice cream  -  3,000 WON (RM9)

Worth to Eat : 3/5

P/S: Although it looks like a flower, but it looks like some other thing in different angle ( Will not be really good looking for girls to eat this == )

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At the end before leaving Insa-Dong, we were fortunate to witness some art performance on the street. I guess you should watch this performance before on FACEBOOK or YOUTUBE. It is an ART PERFORMANCE by SPRAY PAINT. Some kind of performance which you can't really understand or can picture what the artist is doing at start, but at the end when the finished product is out, you will be amazed by the beauty of it.

Beautiful right? It only cost you 9,000 WON (RM28) for each painting which I think it is VERY CHEAP! ( But I couldn't buy it as I still have quite some time to live in Korea, so it is quite trouble some for me to if I need to carry this on my whole journey )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After leaving Insa-Dong, our last destination is HongDae

Introduction

Hongdae-ap (the area in front of Hongik University) is a neighborhood known for its youthful and romantic ambience, underground cultures, and freedom of self-expression. Unique cafes, cozy galleries, accessory stores, fashion shops, live cafés and clubs, art markets, and gourmet eateries make this a popular hang-out for locals in their 20s and 30s and a fascinating place to walk around.

Also in this same area is the ‘A ballerina who loves b-boy’ theater and other theaters dedicated to the art of b-boy dance. Another big draw of Hongdae is the weekend ‘Free market,’ (1pm to 6m) where artists gather each week to display and sell their handmade crafts and accessories. During the market time there are usually a variety of open-air concerts and events as well.

These unique place plus the cultural events, street performances, and festivals held here make Hongdae-ap an area that is always packed with people and excitement. Special streets such as ateliers’ street (with full of private institutions for art students preparing for university entrance exams), Picasso’s Street, and Club Street are also must-go places if you’re hoping to fully experience the Hongdae area.

Once I stepped out from the monorail, I was attracted by some delicious aroma, the food on the korea street is too tempting! So I decided to get 1 to try! It would be taste better if the meat could be hotter, but overall it still taste good!

Chicken Meat Sticks  -  2,000 WON (RM6)

Worth to Eat : 5/5

P/S: Beside of the meats, you can try the sausages if you love SPICY stuff. IT IS DAMN FREAKING SPICY!

In the introduction of the Hongdae, it already stated that this area is full with the teenagers, but I never thought that it is so damn packed with the teenagers, you will be amazed by the amount of the people walking on the street and also inside the monorail in this station!

Something special in Hongdae is there are Street performances but most of them are just students. According to my friends, there are universities just around this area and most of the students are major in performing art, so street performance is one of their subject! There will be lecturer inside the crowd to evaluate their performance.

Karaoke

A very Luxury Karaoke

Another great tourist spot in HongDae is the Trick Eye Museum ( Recently there is one in I-City, Malaysia too)

Due to it was abit too late when we reached there, so we didn't buy the entrance ticket to get in. BUT there are a lot of fun stuff to play outside of the museum! ( So if you are out of budget or get in here late like me, you still can play around here for FREE! )

Trick Eye Museum

Worth to Come : 5/5

At the end we were tired and hungry, so we moved on to have our dinner. We were going to a SPECIAL Restaurant. If you are a RUNNINGMAN FANS, then you have to come to here! THE BBQ Restaurant by HAHA, Runningman Host ! In addition, you can try your luck to see can meet RUNNINGMAN Host at here or not ( I saw a blog post by a HONGKONG Tourist who was so lucky when visited this restaurant, she met Kwangsoo, HAHA, Gary and JoongKoong! So Did I met them?

没有 = =

no ==

HAHA HongDae BBQ Restaurant, Please refer to the menu for the price in the photo above. This BBQ restaurant is famous for the pork intestine, so we ordered one pack of it. BUT, I have to tell you that the amount of the meat and pork intestine for 1 pack is not really enough for you to be full. Luckily that time my friend THENGTHENG will be going for next round for dinner, if not I would be still hungry with these amount = =

Worth to Eat : If you are RUNNINGMAN FANS 5/5
                       If you are not 3/5
